Dale A. Southard, Sr. Obituary ~ Visitation Monday, Sept 11
Dale Allen Southard Sr, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday September 4th, 2023
Dale and his twin brother Don were born in Rice Lake on May 4 1938 to Eva V Southard Barron Solberg (nee Brett) and Willard B Southard. Dale graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where he met Catherine, his wife of sixty-three years and one day and the mother of his three boys.
Dale excelled as a financial manager and advisor, a skill he developed first as a stock broker, then as a medical group manager. But his calling was as the director of the L.E. Phillips Career Development Center, which he managed for many years. His commitment to the CDC extended across the organization and down to workers and clients, many of whom he also supported directly in financial and legal matters. He also served the community as the Chairman of the Township of Washington and as a member of the EC county board. He supported many charitable organizations, as well as the Episcopal Church.
In retirement, Dale enjoyed few things more than picking up his stock brokerage past as an amateur. Never without a stock tip, he took great joy in helping individuals and organizations with their finances. Blackjack and other games of chance invigorated his sense of puzzle solving, and coming back “up” from Turtle Lake or Las Vegas always marked a successful trip on par with a Packer win.
Dale took the most pride in raising his family. He is survived by his wife Cathy; sons Dale Allen Southard, Jr of Larkspur, CA, Jon Arnold Southard (and Stephanie Torto) of Winchester, MA and Dr. Mark Robert Southard (and Erin Southard) of Altoona, WI. He is also survived by brothers Donald Southard, Sr (Sharon) and James Southard; sister Susan Bridger; beloved grandchildren Emma, Katie, Kylie, Danny, Andrew, Zoey, Nina.
Predeceased by parents, brothers Robert and Willard Jr., sister Jean.
In lieu of flowers and gifts the family requests donations be made in his name to the L. E. Phillips Career Development Center or to the Feed My People Food Bank .
