Julia Lopez Race ~ instead of an obituary
Our sweet, beautiful, funny, devoted mother Julia left us today. She was surrounded by the unending love of her family with us by her side. The past few months she was living with Ron and Cassie and we all took care of her with love and laughter. Always laughter. When we recently enrolled her in hospice, they asked her what her wishes were…she said, no obituary and no services and just a simple graveside funeral with family.
Us: “why no obituary?”
Mom: “Most of my friends estan dead and the ones who are not, no read English”
Hospice: ” what about your daughter’s friends?
Mom: “Oh…they can just telly everyone on ‘Facey Book”
So, we are telling you all on “Facey Book”
We didn’t know she would leave us this fast. On Saturday she was in the living room talking to us about her life in Spain, meeting our dad and other beautiful memories. Then, just to keep her awake, we asked her to give us the recipe for her Spanish potato salad (which I have made dozens of times). She gave it to us laughed and said “You just want to steal all my good recipes!!!” ??
Our pain is deep, but we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with my dad “Mi Roberto”, and her brothers and sister.
We (her daughters, sons in law (Ron and Heath) and grandsons (James and Christopher) were her pride and joy. But we all got bumped down the list just a smidge for the new apple of her eye, her great granddaughter, Charlotte. Seeing her play with her and sing Spanish songs to her was the best ❤ We admit we secretly hoped Charlotte would start talking with a mangled “Spanglish” accent, but no such luck.
We are unbelievably blessed to have had her for our mother. “The world was a better place because she was in it and goodness more real because she lived”
