Bishop Wantland’s Consecration Anniversary

Dear Sister and Brother Clergy,
I pass this message from Bishop Wantland, and ask that you remember him on the 40th anniversary of his ordination as Bishop of Eau Claire. The ordination took place on September 30, 1980. I wish in the worst way he could come to the Cathedral for this occasion, but the Corona Virus Pandemic prohibits it. I ask that you keep Bishop Wantland in your prayers—especially on September 30. He has been a great friend to me and my model of best ministry practices within the Diocese. We also agree that being Bishop of Eau Claire is the best job we have ever had!

Dear +Jay:

Sept. 30 is the 40th anniversary of my consecration. Jan always arranged for a special celebration on each 10 years of service. In 1990, she arranged a great celebration (with the help of Dean Kirby) at the Cathedral.. In 2000 I was doing an interim in Alaska, and with the help of Bishop Mac Donald (a former priest of Eau Claire), she had a great celebration in St. Bart’s Church in Palmer. In 2010 I was serving in the Diocese of Fort Worth as Assisting Bishop, and she arranged a celebration at St. Vincent’s Cathedral. This year, Jan is no longer with us, but I had hoped to come back to Christ Church Cathedral (with your permission) for a celebration there. However, the covid virus makes that impossible, so we will have a celebration in the Chapel of St. David Oakerhater. Would you share this with the good people of Eau Claire, as those 19 years were the best in my ministry?

I do treasure your friendship over all these years.

Faithfully,

+Bill Wantland
